I did something a little crazy this past week. I sold my sewing machine. Crazy, I know. I had a few reasons for doing this, but the biggest reason was to simplify. Yes, I wanted to simplify part of my life. The machine I sold is beautiful, does everything, and even has a lovely ability to embroider. So, why did I sell it? Because I wasn’t using it to its full potential. That’s it.
Soooo. What am I sewing with these days? I bought a simple, little workhorse. A Janome Sewist 740DC. I have only sewn one project so far, and I’m very impressed. Plus! It was on sale! Yay!
Along with this new machine, I thought to change our basement around and make a new space for my sewing. I got rid of all my cardboard boxes, and bought a cheap plastic drawer unit for now (I’m not going to show you that;)) And also an Ikea shelving unit I found on Varage Sale. Have you guys heard of that? It’s new to me, but so cool. Just like Craig’s List or Kijiji. Only local. Anyway, I got the shelving unit on there.
I totally organized my fabric into colours. I LOVE to look at this picture above-I think I favour green and yellow, eh? Organizing by colour makes all the fabric so accessible when I’m sewing. I’ve also simplified my stash of fabric. I went through everything, and kept only the fabric I love. Surprisingly there wasn’t much left. The photo above is almost all of it.
I stole the bottom three shelves in the school bookcase for my patterns and magazines. Does anyone else have trouble letting go of magazines? I sure do. Especially if there are patterns involved!
It feels so good to have everything organized and simple. I feel like I could actually get things done easily in this sewing area. Maybe you have a craft area that needs some tidying and organizing? Hopefully you can find some inspiration in this little post.
Pin it for later!
