Recently, I’ve taken up a wonderful new hobby. One that I have only dreamed of in the past 15 or 20 years. I still can’t believe that it has finally come to pass! This new hobby is SPINNING. Eeek!

It all started with a curious trip to a local wool store. By the way, if you are in the Houston area I highly recommend Yarn Store Boutique! The ladies there are helpful, wonderful and kind. Plus, I have never been to a yarn store with so many options. The amount of yarn that Doris carries is mind-blowing!
I wanted to see what a spinning wheel was like in person. I had heard that Ashford spinning wheels were of high quality, and I the Yarn Store Boutique carried one. Yahoo! I was on my way!
The moment I sat down to try treadling, I was in love. Smooth as butter. When I asked how much it was, I was given such a great deal, I could not say no. So, with a quick guide to spinning, kindly given to me by one of their staff, I took this beautiful dream home with me.
Well, it did not go too well the first little while. But, after watching YouTube videos, and trying to remember what I was taught, I finally felt a little more comfortable using it. I feel like I sure don’t have much to say about how to spin. I’m by a long shot not experienced enough, that’s for sure. I can only tell you that it is fun. And relaxing. And therapeutic- we can all use a little therapy these days, right?
P.S. Actually, I did not buy this spinning wheel for myself. It was Isaac, my husband, who told me to go get it. He’s super sweet. And if any of you are on the fence about starting a wonderful new hobby that seems too difficult….now is the time to go for it. My next dream is to buy a fleece, prepare it to be spun, spin it, and knit something cool. I don’t know when that will happen, but someday…..
Take care, and thanks for stopping by!
