Looking for something awesome for supper tonight? Well, look no further! These easy ribs in the oven will knock your socks off! This simple, nearly hands-off rib recipe has been in my family for at least three decades…tried and true. You can’t mess this recipe up, I promise.
If you are hanging around the house for the afternoon anyway, this recipe is for you. Simmered in water for two hours, and then finished off in the oven for two to three hours, you’ll need to be around the house while they are cooking. This does not mean that you have to slave over the stove for that amount of time, though. These ribs are quite independent. A quick peek here and there and a little basting, you will end up with fall-off-the-bone goodness! Perfect with my rustic potato salad, or corn on the cob and a baked potato!
What type of ribs do you need?
As long as you have pork ribs, any cut will be great! You’ll need a two pound package for a single recipe, and to double the recipe, use about four to five pounds of ribs. The secret is in the sauce;)

Ingredients for the ribs.
- Two or three pounds of pork ribs. Any type will be just fine.
- Brown sugar. I used coconut sugar, which is surprisingly similar to brown sugar in taste and texture.
- Ketchup. Any brand will do.
- White vinegar. I used up my white vinegar, and added in some apple cider vinegar. Go ahead and use apple cider vinegar if you like.
- Worcestershire sauce…Who in the world can say that name properly??
- Onion, but if you don’t have any, use some onion powder. 1 tbsp of onion powder for every onion you use.
- Chile powder. I used my homemade habanero hot sauce instead. The point is to add a little kick, so go ahead and use what you have on hand.
How to make ribs in the oven.
- Place the ribs in a large pot on the stove. Cover the ribs with water, and simmer at low to medium heat for two hours.
- After two hours, turn the oven on to 350 degrees F.
- Dice up one medium onion. Place in a medium bowl, and add…
- 3/4 cup of brown sugar. I used coconut sugar.
- 1/2 cup of ketchup.
- 1/2 cup of vinegar. I used part white vinegar and part apple cider vinegar.
- 3/4 cup of water.
- 2 tbsps of Worcestershire sauce.
- 1/2 tsp of chile powder. I added 1 tbsp of my habanero hot sauce.
- Combine all the above well.
- Place your ribs in a roasting pan.
- Pour the sauce over the ribs and place in oven UNCOVERED.
- Baste the ribs with sauce every 30 minutes or so.
- They will be done after about two hours. You’ll know they’re done when the sauce thickens, and the ribs are starting to brown.
- Enjoy with a baked potato and salad or potato salad and corn on the cob!

Tips and tricks for making ribs.
- Go ahead and replace the onion for 1 tbsp of onion powder. Of course, a fresh onion is best, but the powdered will do in a pinch.
- Use apple cider vinegar if you don’t have any white vinegar.
- I used coconut sugar instead of brown sugar, because I didn’t have enough brown sugar. It turned out great!
- Use whatever spicy kick you have in the pantry or fridge. I used my habanero hot sauce, and it gave the ribs a zing.
