Kitchen tools are the most important to me when I’m cooking. I have comfortable spoons, sharp knives and heavy pans. I also have a Kitchen Aid mixer, an immersion blender and many, many bowls. Maybe I have too many bowls.
I love wooden spoons. Wooden spoons feel great in my hand, and I especially love the ones in my collection that are made by people I love. When you’re stirring a pot, or a bowl of cookie dough, reach for a wooden spoon instead of a metal one. Wood will not dig into your hand like metal will.
I really don’t know what I’d do without sharp knives. My husband keeps my knives sharp all of the time, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. When a knife is sharp, you don’t have to “saw” at the tomato. You slice it. Easy.
Kitchen Aid mixers are awesome. They are perfect for cookie dough, or whipping cream. I have stopped using mine for bread, because I find it can only handle 1 or 2 loaves at a time. That’s not enough for our family of 8. So, the plan is to get a Bosch mixer for bread making, and leave the Kitchen Aid to the cookies. Haha
Cast iron is pretty popular these days in my kitchen. I just got a 12 inch Lodge frying pan– I really like it. It makes me feel better not to use nonstick much anymore. Besides, cast iron can become nonstick with use, and the right treatment. That’s for another post, though. I have a large, oval cast iron dutch oven that I truly love. It was found it at an antique shop about 15 years ago. I bake my ciabatta bread in it, and it makes a fantastic stew pot.
The immersion blender is one thing that I really thought I didn’t need, but I was wrong. Great for eggs, and also to mix crepe batter, I can’t be without it, now.
Oh, I almost forgot my French spatula! I only own one spatula, and it is the best. It’s shaped perfectly to lift a corner of french toast, or flip an egg effortlessly. Go get one. I’m on my second one in almost 20 years.
And bowls. Bowls are a weakness for me. I know I have too many, but who can resist antique FireKing at a garage sale?
So, there you go. Just a few of my favourite kitchen tools. What are your favourite kitchen tools? I’d love to know.

Love my bench scraper – just a simple inexpensive tool but so so great for clean up when making bread or biscuits!
I did forget to mention my bench scraper, too! Thanks Mom 😉
I agree about the wooden spoons and like you, I have the same obsession for bowls. In fact, my stack is almost identical to yours. We must be related! Love reading your blog. I have a little chuckle whenever your gentle humour comes out in your writing. Can’t wait for more posts and pics! They are wonderful.
PS- my favourite kitchen tool is my Joy of Cooking Cook Book! Whenever I need some guidance, it is there for me. It has been passed down through two generations and will be passed on to my kids.💕
Aww. Thanks Bobbi!
What is an immersion blender?
Hi Bobbi. I think another name for it is a stick blender. Just click on the highlighted word “immersion blender” in the post, and you’ll see the one I have.
