A simple turkey stir fry is a go-to supper for us. Basically, it consists of ground turkey, vegetables and some sort of grain. Tonight I used brown rice. Other times I’ve cooked up some quinoa. Both are delicious, and let’s be honest. The grain is just the carrier for the best part of the dish, anyway;)

This is more of a “structure” than an actual recipe. Whenever I make this turkey stir fry it turns out just a little different than the last time. I’ll walk you through what I made tonight, okay? You can decide how to change things up to suit what’s in the fridge and pantry. Let’s start with the “carrier”, or the grain. Tonight I used brown rice, like I said above. Get that started first, because, if you have a rice maker, like I do, it’ll take about 45 minutes.
You will want to cook up about a pound of ground turkey. I did add about a tablespoon of butter to the pan with the turkey, just because it needed a little fat in there. Fry the turkey, stirring often until it is no longer pink. Then. The magic ingredient…. Lawry’s Garlic Salt! I added about 1/2 tsp to the ground turkey.
For someone who likes to make most things from scratch, it may come as a surprise to you that the star of this show is actually garlic salt. Not fresh garlic. Trust me, though. You will not regret adding it.
After your meat is cooked, and you’re waiting patiently for the rice to finish up, start on the veggies. For supper tonight, I had mushrooms (a large box), and about 1.5 lbs of delicious asparagus. I did chop and slice the veggies before I started the rice. Using about 1/4 cup of butter, I sauteed the mushrooms first. When they were mostly cooked, I added another 1/4 cup of butter and threw in the asparagus. Giving the veggies a stir here and there, I added about 1 tsp of garlic salt, stirred again, and put a lid on the pan to let the asparagus steam a little.
Once the rice is finished cooking, place a spoonful on a plate or in a bowl. Add a scoop or two of the veggie stir fry, and then a bit of turkey on top. Voila! A simple turkey stir fry!
Here’s a list of veggies you can use in this meal (one’s we’ve tried, anyway):
- zucchini
- carrots
- green beans
- brussels sprouts
- red peppers
Hopefully this “recipe” inspires some new supper ideas! Enjoy!
